Your Best Friend

"Are you aware we’re the last ones left at Jamie’s? I guess she’s calling it early
tonight ‘cause no one was even wasted, but you drowned yourself out alright... I
hate when you whisper to me that you think you should be the one who could be
taking me home, ‘cause you’ve got problems and I’ve never asked to solve them.
So don’t be a stranger, but don’t get too close. I’ve told you one too many times;
you can’t have it all. I’ve told myself so many times; we can’t have it all. And it
breaks my heart to tell you but I gotta play this right. Yeah, I gotta play this right
‘cause your best friend’s my girlfriend. Don’t you go crying now, ‘cause your best
friend’s my girlfriend. We had our chance then back in 2010, but I just didn’t fit the
part. I bet you wish I had. We had our chance then back in 2010, but you just didn’t
fit the part. I kind of wish you had."

On my way home I told you I would stay for you. It’s getting late now. I told you I
would wait for you. You left the door wide open. Risk taken, ties broken. I laughed.
We’re on our way now. I told you I would stay for you. Lately they say I’m trying too
hard but maybe that’s what I needed to get this far. Time escaping and it’s
something I should learn. ‘Cause time’s escaping and erasing my chance with her.
From the car to the hotel bed. Through the dark, all the things you said. And still
the only thing on my mind... Lately they say I’m trying too hard but maybe that’s
what I needed to get this far. Lately they say I’m trying too hard and all you had to
say was don’t go far.

The Let Down

The let down. He wasn’t ready for it, but she was yelling his name now. And even
when he came around he wasn’t having it. The boy was panicking. If only there
wasn’t any big let down. She’s calling right now. It’s over his head. Please leave a
message. The world’s ending. Time out just to find out it’s all in his head. The
message said... It’s all the same. If you feel the same we’ll never change. Chill out
if you think you know me bae, ‘cause I don’t really want to fight back. Slow tunes,
set mood, and your parents away but you know I don’t like that. We’re going harder
than we’ve ever gone before and when you say my name I know it’s all the same.
Let down. Gotta sort each other out. The world’s ending but it’s not ended yet,
although you’d like that. Slow tunes, set mood, and your parents away... I think I
might like that. Time out just to find out it’s all in his head. I know you like that. It’s
all in my head. And I love the way you touch my hair. It makes it so damn hard. If
you feel that way it’s all the same.

If I Came Back For You

...And it’s my fault that I waited. My fault I was faded when I knew you. I let you
sink, I let you curve, I let you slip with unsaid words. I watched the spark that you
had for me die right in front of me. I take small steps to get my best and forget who
you are, kid. Here’s to hoping that I can live with myself. Here’s to knowing that I’m
still right here. So I’ll keep my head straight and wander through life, hoping you
saved a place for me. And maybe you’ll go there to ponder sometimes on the
nights we came so damn close. I bet you won’t. I’m still right here. Here’s to hoping
that I can live with myself. Here’s to knowing that I’m still right here without you.
